FCT Natives Object Demolition of Native Properties in Indigenous Communities
Garkuwan Jikwoyi, Sir Aminu Obed Yeminya, has expressed deepest concerns and objections to the continuous demolition of native properties in the communities within the FCT. As a bona fide indigene of the FCT, Abuja, I am compelled to voice the collective outrage, displeasure, and disappointment of our people.
The recent incident in Karsana is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of these demolitions. The destruction of our homes, businesses, and cultural landmarks is not only unjust but also inhumane. It displaces families, destroys livelihoods, and erases our cultural heritage.
I humbly appeal to Your Excellency and the relevant authorities, including the Development Control FCDA to reconsider this decision and engage our community to find alternative solutions that balance development needs with regards to our rights and interests.
We respectfully demand:
– Fair compensation and relocation assistance for affected individuals and businesses
– Community participation in development planning
– Protection of our cultural heritage and community landmarks, among other things
We believe that development should benefit everyone, not just a select few. We are willing to work with you to find a solution that respects our rights and dignity.
As a peace-loving people, we have made significant sacrifices for the nation’s development, including ceding our ancestral lands. We plead with you to consider our plight and work with us to achieve development in a peaceful environment before we are extincted.
We look forward to a positive response.
Sincerely,
*Sir Aminu Obed Yeminya*
Garkuwan Jikwoyi.
